In some regard, this has been what I've been writing toward. The Dreary House was written with the goal of writing several short stories and combining them into a single story. A Place to Stay was written as a single stand-alone story, realizing upon the completion of the first draft that it ought to tie-in to The Dreary House (With Anna filling a role as something more than [early] South Park's Kenny.) The main idea for Chance of Tragedies occurred to me shortly after publishing A Place to Stay, although several ideas in it are things that occurred to me while editing the previous first two stories. I've edited all three to a single novel. Twice!
Why twice? Well, there's something I wanted to do with the story since reading House of Leaves and picking up some comic books: utilize the text. Realizing such an action would impede readers who prefer their words organized by sentences and paragraphs with a consistent font, there is a "normal" version. There are some readers, however, who do enjoy such textual forays in their literature. So, another version exists - one in which words are not quite as constrained to their position or font. Both versions have the same word count. Both took time.
Since I'm interested in producing two versions (with at least one of those versions a physical copy), I sent the normal version of the book to a few publishers, pending responses. Depending on the outcome of those responses, there is an overall plan to have a physical copy sometime this year. Audio to follow.
Still following? Cool. One more thing: I am, very slowly, working on laying the foundation for the next set of stories. Such a foundation involves a lot of research and outlining. I'd very much like for the stories to appear as they are finished on this blog, while once again building toward a full story. Right now, I'm thinking a lot of the world's lore will be posted here in short story form while chapters of the story will appear as completed. I'd like to publish the full story when it is complete. The story will take place in a fantasy setting with horror elements and does not currently have a title. Look forward to either the first part or more details next week!
