By Nathan Nish
we don't go outside any more
we're too afraid of the shooting
from the war.
They say it is this, and they say it is that.
They say they'll save us, because
another "they" hates us,
they want to enslave us -
but I just can't tell which "they"
is the "they" we're supposed
to have disclosed that
we've always hated just a little bit more.
I can't help but ask what it's all for
but I know the answers that are
through that door are the ones
that soon, we'll be unable to ignore.
So we get in our cars
drive out to the stars
but this dream ends just before
we ever opened that door
so we get up and go to the store
just to hope it's still the place
we've always explored.
day in and day out, a little more doubt
from all of those wars
in countries that have little stores
that are too afraid of the shooting,
so they don't go outside anymore.
